I want to use a different IRB, do I have to do anything at UIUC?

Question

I want to use a different IRB, do I have to do anything at UIUC?

Answer

Yes! External IRBs can be used in certain situations and only with OPRS' approval. Researchers cannot make a decision to use a different IRB on their own. This is referred to as the "Single IRB Process".  Please review the pages that describe the Single IRB Process, Using an External IRB, and the Facilitated Review process.

The first step to having a discussion about whether it is appropriate to use an external IRB is for the UIUC PI to submit a Reliance Consultation Request.
