Once my project is determined exempt, do I need to do anything else with the application?

Question

Once my project is determined exempt, do I need to do anything else with the application?

Answer

Yes.  Exempt research does not expire; however, when the project is completed the PI is responsible for submitting a Final Project Report to close the study.

Amendments to update the research team are required.  OPRS is still required to confirm training, qualifications, etc. for all exempt research team members.  Other changes only need to be submitted if the change might impact the exempt nature of the project, often referred to as a "major change".  Review the Research Guidance Document on Exempt Research below.

Any problem or event that meets the reporting criteria for a report form must be submitted for exempt research.
