International Research Form
International research conducted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign investigators falls under the University purview and guidelines. Research projects must also be reviewed and approved by the local equivalent of an IRB. When there is no equivalent board or group, investigators are asked to rely on local experts or community leaders to provide approval, when it is relevant to the research. The Illinois IRB will grant approval after documentation of local approval has been provided.
Note: All researchers collecting data outside the U.S. are required to complete the CITI module for international research. If you are planning to take university-owned equipment (including laptops) out of the country, or planning to travel to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, or Syria, you may need to obtain special export or travel licenses. Please contact the Export Compliance Office at exportcontrols@illinois.edu or by calling Sponsored Programs at (217) 333-2187.
If any non-English subjects are going to be recruited, please complete a Certificate of Translation form verifying accurate translation of applicable study documents.
