University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign researchers and research team members who conduct human subject research must complete required training before OPRS/IRB will approve a project.
The University of Miami Collaborative IRB Training Initiative, also known as the CITI Program, is an interactive set of modules designed to improve knowledge of the Common Rule and other human subject research regulations.
UIUC requires the CITI “Core IRB Training” module for all individuals engaged in human subject research. For all researchers and research staff, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will honor a valid training certificate for three years from the date of completion. After three years, training will need to be repeated.
Research team members from other academic institutions generally follow training requirements from their own institution, not UIUC. Please see UIUC Serving as IRB of Record for more information.
If you have research team members who are not affiliated with an academic institution, please discuss training requirements as part of a reliance consultation and contact OPRS to discuss CITI training for research team members without a NetID.
If community partners are part of your research team, please see Community Partner Training for more information.
