Transition Existing Projects to IRBOnline

Details

(Notice sent via OPRS/Human Subject Research Listserv on 11/13/2023)

Dear Colleagues:

As you know, OPRS is upgrading our systems to better support human subjects reseachers at Illinois.  IRBOnline is now live and we are preparing for the next phase of the project: transitioning all existing projects on "paper applications" (PDF files) to the IRBOnline system.

Any human subject research project that is currently active (Exempt, Minimal Risk, Greater than Minimal Risk) at UIUC must be submitted as a new project in IRBOnline, by October 31, 2024.

What does this mean for you?

  • If you have a current project, you’ll need to make a transition plan. OVCRI has partnered with IHSI to provide guidance and support for this transition. Questions about existing projects and how to input information from an existing study should be directed to the IHSI-IRBOnline Transition Coordinator at ihsi-irbonline@beckman.illinois.edu
  • Renewal forms will not be accepted nor reviewed for any “paper” applications. (Details here
  • Investigators may want to use this transition as an opportunity to close a study that has been completed. (Details here)

Please visit the OPRS website here for detailed information about the transition, important dates, and resources that will help you complete this important next step as we modernize the support and oversight of human subjects research at Illinois.
